Renal anomalies
Congenital ureteral stenosis
In this anomaly, also referred to as ureteropelvic junction obstruction, the ureter is narrowed at the orifice to the renal pelvis, causing the accumulating urine to dilate and potentially damage the surrounding tissue. Potential renal damage involving loss of function is particularly dangerous. In the event of pronounced symptoms or loss of renal function, surgical intervention, referred to as pyeloplasty, is required.
