Diagnosis of varicoceles

The following examinations are performed if varicoceles are suspected:

• Physician-patient dialogue
• Physical examination with and without pressing (Valsalva manoeuvre)
• Ultrasound examination incl. Doppler sonography

Since the testicular blood vessels originate/drain at the level of the renal vessels because of the testicular descent in the womb, an ultrasound examination of the kidneys should also always be performed upon diagnosis of varicoceles.
